At its core, Fractal Flower Ⅱ expresses the philosophy of 二項対立 (binary opposition). Through a specialized glass-processing technique, discarded fragments of Nishijin-ori fabric—once woven for Kyoto’s opulent obi sashes—are carefully encased within transparent glass. Each plate presents a unique face, shaped by the precise moment of selection, ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical. Just as a kimono sash tells a different story depending on its cut, this plate carries an unrepeatable expression, a fleeting imprint of Kyoto’s textile heritage.

The geometric motif of 幾何華 (Fractal Flower) evokes the structural elegance of nature—petals unfolding in symmetry, crystalline formations shaping the unseen. At the same time, it is an intellectual tribute to Kyoto’s history, where aesthetics and mathematics have long coexisted in the weavings of artisans, the architecture of temples, and the rhythms of traditional tea ceremonies.
