This one-of-a-kind glass plate embodies Kyoto’s refined aesthetics and craftsmanship. Created in collaboration with Nishijin-ori artisans, it merges the contrasts of soft textile and rigid glass, tradition and modernity. Through specialized processing, discarded fragments of Nishijin-ori fabric—once woven for Kyoto’s opulent obi sashes—are encased in transparent glass, ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical.

This richly composed pattern features an array of idealized Tang-style flowers (karahana), centered around a striking six-petal bloom. The layout, abundant yet orderly, evokes the grandeur of classical court aesthetics.

Gold thread outlines create depth and brilliance, enhancing the contrast with the vivid palette of reds, greens, and blues. Often found in imperial attire, this design embodies refined beauty, ceremonial elegance, and the harmony of idealized floral forms.

Rooted in upcycling and sustainability, this piece aligns with SDGs principles by repurposing exquisite fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. By preserving Kyoto’s textile heritage in a new form, it celebrates imperfection and honors the artisans who have upheld this tradition for centuries.

想像上の理想的な花をかたどった唐花を全面に展開した、重厚かつ荘厳な意匠である。中心には六弁の大きな唐花が据えられ、まわりに配置された多彩な花々とともに、華麗な装飾性を生み出している。

金糸による輪郭が織に立体感と輝きをもたらし、赤や青、緑など豊かな色彩との対比が視覚的な深みを生む。宮廷装束などにも見られるこの構成は、格式・美・理想の調和を体現した典型的な高貴文様である。

アップサイクルとサステイナビリティに根ざしたこの作品は、本来であれば廃棄されるはずの素晴らしい生地を再利用することで、SDGsの原則に沿ったものとなっている。京都の織物遺産を新しい形で保存することで、不完全さを称え、何世紀にもわたってこの伝統を守ってきた職人に敬意を表している。
