Created in collaboration with Nishijin-ori artisans, it merges the contrasts of soft textile and rigid glass, tradition and modernity. Through specialized processing, discarded fragments of Nishijin-ori fabric—once woven for Kyoto’s opulent obi sashes—are encased in transparent glass, ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical.

Inspired by traditional gōtenjō (coffered ceilings), this design features a radiant central blossom flanked by curving arabesques that extend outward in a cross-shaped symmetry. It blends structural clarity with ornamental elegance.

The subtle layering of pale blue and grey-purple threads, outlined in shimmering gold, gives the pattern depth and quiet grandeur. With its fusion of Japanese textile aesthetics and architectural rhythm, it offers a refined and contemplative presence.

Rooted in upcycling and sustainability, this piece aligns with SDGs principles by repurposing exquisite fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. By preserving Kyoto’s textile heritage in a new form, it celebrates imperfection and honors the artisans who have upheld this tradition for centuries.
