Created in collaboration with Nishijin-ori artisans, it merges the contrasts of soft textile and rigid glass, tradition and modernity. Through specialized processing, discarded fragments of Nishijin-ori fabric—once woven for Kyoto’s opulent obi sashes—are encased in transparent glass, ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical.

This graceful pattern pairs flowing karakusa vines with blooming peonies—traditionally symbols of wealth, beauty, and vitality. The intertwining of blossoms and tendrils expresses both elegance and continuity.

Set against a white background, the use of soft pastel hues lends the design a fresh, modern quality. With its rhythmic floral placement and airy composition, the motif balances classical richness with a gentle, contemporary charm.

Rooted in upcycling and sustainability, this piece aligns with SDGs principles by repurposing exquisite fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. By preserving Kyoto’s textile heritage in a new form, it celebrates imperfection and honors the artisans who have upheld this tradition for centuries.

京都の洗練された美意識とクラフツマンシップを体現する唯一無二のガラスプレート。西陣織の職人とのコラボレーションにより、柔らかな織物と硬質なガラス、伝統と現代のコントラストを融合させた。かつて京都の豪華な帯のために織られた西陣織の反物を、特殊な加工を施すことで透明なガラスに封じ込め、同じものは二つとない。

唐草のしなやかな蔓の流れに、牡丹の花を配した優美な構成の文様である。牡丹は「百花の王」と称される吉祥花であり、富貴や華麗さを象徴する一方、唐草は生命の連続性や繁栄を表すとされる。

白地に施されたパステル調のやさしい彩色が、伝統的なモチーフに現代的な軽やかさを与えている。花の配置にリズムと余白が感じられ、開放感とやわらかな気品が調和する、モダンで詩的な印象の意匠である。

アップサイクルとサステイナビリティに根ざしたこの作品は、本来であれば廃棄されるはずの素晴らしい生地を再利用することで、SDGsの原則に沿ったものとなっている。京都の織物遺産を新しい形で保存することで、不完全さを称え、何世紀にもわたってこの伝統を守ってきた職人に敬意を表している。
