This one-of-a-kind glass plate embodies Kyoto’s refined aesthetics and craftsmanship. Created in collaboration with Nishijin-ori artisans, it merges the contrasts of soft textile and rigid glass, tradition and modernity. Through specialized processing, discarded fragments of Nishijin-ori fabric—once woven for Kyoto’s opulent obi sashes—are encased in transparent glass, ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical.

This playful yet refined pattern arranges abstracted plum blossoms in a rhythmic layout. Set against a soft celadon-green background, white, gold, and vermilion blooms offer a light, festive touch without overwhelming the viewer.

With its clean lines and simplified forms, the design feels both distinctly Japanese and subtly Scandinavian. It blends traditional plum symbolism—resilience, renewal, and beauty—with modern sensibilities in color and composition.

Rooted in upcycling and sustainability, this piece aligns with SDGs principles by repurposing exquisite fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. By preserving Kyoto’s textile heritage in a new form, it celebrates imperfection and honors the artisans who have upheld this tradition for centuries.

京都の洗練された美意識とクラフツマンシップを体現する唯一無二のガラスプレート。西陣織の職人とのコラボレーションにより、柔らかな織物と硬質なガラス、伝統と現代のコントラストを融合させた。かつて京都の豪華な帯のために織られた西陣織の反物を、特殊な加工を施すことで透明なガラスに封じ込め、同じものは二つとない。

梅花を簡潔な線と面で表現し、リズミカルに並べた構成が特徴の意匠である。青磁色のやわらかな地色に、白・金・朱の梅が浮かぶように散らされており、落ち着きの中に軽やかな華やかさを宿している。

抽象化された梅の形状は、伝統的な文様でありながらも北欧的なポップさやモダンな親しみやすさを備える。古典と現代、東洋と西洋の感覚が自然に溶け合った、柔らかく洗練された文様である。

アップサイクルとサステイナビリティに根ざしたこの作品は、本来であれば廃棄されるはずの素晴らしい生地を再利用することで、SDGsの原則に沿ったものとなっている。京都の織物遺産を新しい形で保存することで、不完全さを称え、何世紀にもわたってこの伝統を守ってきた職人に敬意を表している。
