Through specialized processing, discarded fragments of Nishijin-ori fabric—once woven for Kyoto’s opulent obi sashes—are encased in transparent glass, ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical.

This horizontal-striped motif is composed of layered weaves and varied colors, creating a visual rhythm that balances geometric structure with organic warmth. Vivid touches of orange and blue breathe life into the design.

The composition evokes geological strata or the passage of time, with its quiet layering of textures and tones. It is a textile that speaks not only of form, but of memory, movement, and the invisible beauty of natural accumulation.

Rooted in upcycling and sustainability, this piece aligns with SDGs principles by repurposing exquisite fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. By preserving Kyoto’s textile heritage in a new form, it celebrates imperfection and honors the artisans who have upheld this tradition for centuries.

京都の洗練された美意識とクラフツマンシップを体現する唯一無二のガラスプレート。西陣織の職人とのコラボレーションにより、柔らかな織物と硬質なガラス、伝統と現代のコントラストを融合させた。かつて京都の豪華な帯のために織られた西陣織の反物を、特殊な加工を施すことで透明なガラスに封じ込め、同じものは二つとない。

さまざまな織りと色彩を重ね合わせた横段構成が特徴の意匠である。幾何学的でありながら、規則性の中にランダムなリズムが織り込まれており、温かみと生命感を感じさせる構成となっている。

オレンジやブルーといった鮮やかな差し色が随所に入り、地層や時間の蓄積を思わせるような奥行きが表現されている。構造美の中に自然のリズムを溶け込ませた、抽象的かつ詩的な横段文様である。

アップサイクルとサステイナビリティに根ざしたこの作品は、本来であれば廃棄されるはずの素晴らしい生地を再利用することで、SDGsの原則に沿ったものとなっている。京都の織物遺産を新しい形で保存することで、不完全さを称え、何世紀にもわたってこの伝統を守ってきた職人に敬意を表している。
