This one-of-a-kind glass plate embodies Kyoto’s refined aesthetics and craftsmanship. Created in collaboration with Nishijin-ori artisans, it merges the contrasts of soft textile and rigid glass, tradition and modernity. Through specialized processing, discarded fragments of Nishijin-ori fabric—once woven for Kyoto’s opulent obi sashes—are encased in transparent glass, ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical.

This graceful design features butterflies in harmony with richly blooming flowers such as hibiscus and peonies. Rather than background elements, the butterflies are treated as equals—symbolizing coexistence and the cyclical nature of life in the natural world.

Rendered in soft, gentle tones, the pattern evokes the feeling of a spring breeze. Blending realism and decoration, it expresses both elegance and poetic sensibility, capturing the quiet beauty of seasonal change.

Rooted in upcycling and sustainability, this piece aligns with SDGs principles by repurposing exquisite fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. By preserving Kyoto’s textile heritage in a new form, it celebrates imperfection and honors the artisans who have upheld this tradition for centuries.

芙蓉や牡丹などの華やかな草花と蝶が、対等にあしらわれた調和の取れた意匠である。蝶は花の傍らで舞う存在として描かれ、自然界の共生と生命の循環を象徴している。

柔らかな彩色が全体を包み、春風のようなやさしさと軽やかさを醸し出している。写実と装飾の中間に位置する構成は、季節のうつろいを感じさせ、気品と詩情を併せ持つ伝統的な文様である。
